Headteacher at her desk

Connect, reflect and develop your skills with other Headteachers

Headspace and Yourspace are our confidential, personal and professional development group programmes specifically designed for Headteachers and Deputy Heads.

Our experience tells us school leaders need the time and space to sustain their own resilience and personal and professional effectiveness, so they can meet the constant demands of the job.

Headspace and Yourspace offer a safe and confidential environment where Headteachers, Deputy or Assistant Heads can explore the most effective leadership behaviours and learn from each other, using action-learning and problem-solving techniques.

Our Headspace and Yourspace programmes bring together small groups of school leaders in local areas, creating a confidential space with a skilled facilitator to explore and share ideas and reignite their passion for their work. We provide a chance to share your valuable knowledge and experience as a school leader outside the context of your school, where you can gain some insight from others as well.

Headspace Head

How does Headspace work?

Headspace for Headteachers starts with a whole-day introductory session, which is followed by five half-days spread out over the chosen period. The programme typically lasts between six and twelve months and is customised to meet the needs of Headteachers within their specific local context. Our consultant will work with each group of Headteachers.

Participants often report feeling more resilient, having more strategic insight and feeling more confident in their abilities.

What are the benefits?

Headteachers tell us they have gained the following benefits through their active participation in the programme:

  • managing change more successfully
  • improved resilience and the ability to work more effectively
  • improved strategies for leadership issues
  • more confidence in managing performance
  • greater ability to prioritise and manage demands
  • renewed enthusiasm for the job
  • insight from other school environments

Many groups continue to meet after the formal programme ends.
