Learning in Harmony Academy Trust

Gary Wilkie is the Chief Executive and Executive Head of Learning in Harmony Multi-Academy Trust representing six Primary Schools (and growing) based in East London and Southend. Here, he outlines the positive impact the Positive Workplace Survey has had in this group of schools.

Maximising the potential of each of the schools in the Trust is important and we wanted to do this in a way that could be measured. We also wanted to make sure we reaped the benefits of working as an effective group but without losing the important and individual identity of each school. The survey gave us a way to do all of this.

The survey process allows all the members of staff across the whole Trust to have an input and influence the outcomes. In fact the process itself is of great value. We use the survey to gauge progress in relation to the vision, walk the talk and support the development of our cultures so that pupils can progress.Other benefits include:

  • creates collaboration and maximises potential 
  • incredibly valuable to any school’s leadership team 

We also make use of the survey as a management tool that offers us a base line in each of the schools of what is happening with staff and how engaged they feel. This is a very tangible measure for our Trustees and incredibly useful to show the direction of the Trust in a variety of areas.
