Thank you! | Education Support Partnership

Thank you!

Thank you so much to everyone who donated to, shared and supported our Christmas appeal. Thanks to you, an amazing £32,000 has been raised to help teachers like Tara!

The money raised will be spent across all of our services, including:

  • Financial grant awards
2017 was our busiest year for grants with a 40% increase in applications from teachers, support staff and lecturers needing our help. The majority of applications are for help with housing costs to keep teachers like Tara in a home. Your donations may pay for a months’ rent, moving costs, an oven or fridge or for essential expenses to make ends meet.
  • Answering helpline calls
Calls to our helpline spike in January. Going back to work after the Christmas break can be difficult, and our trained counsellors are here to help.  If you need to speak to someone call us any time, completely confidentially and free of charge on 08000 562 561.

Your messages

Many of you also sent lovely messages of support to Tara which she really appreciated. Here are just a few!

How is Tara doing now?

In a follow up article in The Guardian, Tara shared how she found settling in to her new home, and how difficult it was initially to share her story.

“It’s taken a while for it to feel like home. But knowing my teenage son and daughter and I are not going to be thrown out at any moment by a landlord is a huge weight off my mind. I wanted Guardian readers and the government to know the story was not made up and that teachers really are facing homelessness.”

She says one of her year 7 pupils came up to her afterwards to say he’d been shown the interview by one of his friends:

“He wanted to check I was all right now. Then he said: ‘I’m so sorry this happened to you, miss.’ I’ll never forget he said that.”

When we told Tara how much was raised, she was delighted and told us: “I hope it makes a difference to someone like me”.
