Talking staff wellbeing at events & conferences

Over the past 4 months we have been incredibly busy travelling across the country talking about the services we offer, both for individuals and schools. We have had a fabulous time meeting hundreds of teachers, lecturers, school leaders, support staff from schools and colleges across the UK.

Union conferences

We were very excited to attend many of the union conferences taking place over the Easter period. We attended ASCL, NAHT, ATL, NASUWT and UCU Conferences which took place up and down the country, talking to members about wellbeing and mental health and sharing information about our helpline and grant services.

Our infamous stress apples were given out in abundance and teachers, teaching assistants and lecturers took home materials to share with their colleagues.  It was sad to hear how much our helpline was needed in the education community at the moment, but it was great to see and hear colleagues looking out for each other. With so many keen to share the message about our services, we have sent over 300 care packs to those who requested them for their staffrooms.

When we attended the UCU Congress we talked to further and higher education staff about how we support their wellbeing and met engineering lecturer, Chris. In this video he talks about a time when he suffered from depression and describes how talking to a trained counsellor helped him on the road to recovery and kept him working in education.

Festival of Education

We had a great time at the Festival of Education at Wellington College in June. Our CEO, Julian Stanley, delivered a presentation ‘The case for the mental health of education professionals being made a priority.’ Julian spoke about the importance of staff mental health and wellbeing and the positive impact this has on student outcomes and staff retention. The presentation was very well received by all attendees.

On the 22nd June, we gathered with university staff from across the country to celebrate their hard work and success’. The attendees generously contributed over £6000 in total towards our work. We send a huge thank you to everyone who donated on the night.

Southern Education and Academies show

At the end of June, Barbi Goulding-Parr presented to over 60 heads, deputy head and business managers on ‘Transforming staff wellbeing in schools, supporting individual resilience and enhancing performance’ at the Southern Education and Academies show.

The presentation focussed on how supporting staff wellbeing and promoting strategies to support individual staff can help different schools to achieve their goals. It went really well and we enjoyed sharing our ideas with those who attended.
